Google is optimizing how users of the unit make a backup and synchronize their files. The company is expelling the new desktop application unit on Mac and Windows.
The desktop unit will replace the backup and synchronization application (which supplanted the Google Drive Desktop application in 2018), as well as the file transmission of the unit, which is for business users. Since Google Workspace is now available for all, it does not make much sense to have separate synchronization methods.
The new application combines the best backup and synchronization parts and transmission of drive files, according to Google. You can upload and synchronize your photos and videos through Google’s photos, as well as the unit. There is also the option of synchronizing external storage devices with the cloud. In addition, you can reflect the files of the unit on your computer, with locally stored files versions for faster access.
In addition to that, you can synchronize local folders, such as your desktop and documents. There is also integration with Microsoft Outlook and comply with programming, and you can see who is editing the Microsoft Office files in real time.
The users of the file transmission of the unit will not have to do much. Google renamed the application to drive for the desktop, and you will get characteristics of the backup and synchronization in the coming months. Google will request backup and synchronization users to switch to the unit for the desktop. Since October 1, the backup and synchronization will stop working, so you must make the transition to continue supporting your files with the unit.
